Will Your Web Site Be a "Field of Dreams"?

How to Make Online Profits a Reality

In the 1989 film “Field of Dreams,” Kevin Costner portrays Ray Kinsella, an Iowa farmer with a vision—a vision inspired by a voice in his head. Ray's vision compels him to build a baseball diamond in the middle of his corn field. The mysterious internal voice tells him, “If you build it, he will come.”

(“He,” in this case, refers to “Shoeless Joe” Jackson of the 1919 Chicago White Sox, also known as the infamous "Black Sox.")

Those who appreciate the game of baseball (and even those who don't) will recognize a gem of truth in the story: As improbable as a dream may be, anything can happen for those who dare to believe it and follow through.

“And what does this have to do with web sites?” you ask...

The Myth and the Reality

We resurrect this story because we've found that some people apparently believe this principle can be applied—in a literal way—to their own web site.

“If I build it (my web site), they (swarms of site visitors) will surely come, and the money will just roll in. Right?”

Well, that's the myth, anyway. The reality is that it's rarely a “sure thing.” If you proceed with your site project believing in this myth, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment!

The good news is that the visionary part of the story can be true for you. The cautionary tale is that if you want to make your web site a productive “field of dreams” for your business, there's more involved than just putting up a web site.

Just as with a baseball pitch, some advance strategy and “follow through” are required. And that's where we can help you!
